Amina, an RBT, is teaching Caleb, age 5, to touch the picture of a dog. She presents a dog card and a cat card in a mixed order across trials, says "Touch dog," reinforces touches to the dog and gives a neutral correction when he touches the cat. In this program, what is the cat card?
Pick an answer to see why each option is right or wrong.
Why C is right
An S-delta is a stimulus in whose presence a response is not reinforced. In discrimination training the S-delta is the distractor: touching the cat card after 'Touch dog' never earns reinforcement, so that response becomes less likely. The dog card is the SD for touching after that instruction.
Why the others are wrong
- AA stimulus prompt changes the materials to make the correct choice stand out, such as making the dog card bigger. The cat card is a comparison item, not added help.
- BThe discriminative stimulus is the stimulus in whose presence the response is reinforced. That is the dog card, not the cat card.
- DA motivating operation changes the value of the reinforcer. The cat card does not change how much Caleb wants the reinforcer; it is an antecedent in which the response is not reinforced.
How this RBT practice exam works
- Take the 20-question check. It is weighted like the real exam: 3 questions from Data Collection and Graphing, 2 from Behavior Assessment, 5 from Behavior Acquisition, 4 from Behavior Reduction, 3 from Documentation and Reporting, 3 from Ethics. No sign-up. About 15 minutes.
- See your count in each domain. You get x of 20 overall and n of m per domain. The two domains with the lowest counts are flagged "check this first."
- Drill, then re-test. Each domain has a free 20-question quiz and 15 "confusable pairs" items. Every question explains why the right answer is right and why each wrong option is wrong. The paid Re-test Loop adds drills by domain, re-tests of missed items with new scenarios at +3 and +7 days, a day-by-day plan, and three reserved full-length mocks.

Is this RBT practice exam up to date?
Yes. The RBT exam moved to the 3rd edition of the Test Content Outline in 2026, with 43 tasks across six domains. Older practice tests may still follow the previous outline, so a question can drill something that is no longer tested or use an outdated domain name. Every question here is mapped to a task in the 3rd edition, and each practice set shows which domain it comes from.
Your result is a count per domain, not a pass or fail. The BACB sets the passing standard for each exam form and does not publish a fixed percent, so a practice score cannot tell you whether you will pass. It can tell you where to study next.

The method in one paragraph
We call it the Re-test Loop. You start by answering questions, not by reading notes, because recalling an answer builds stronger memory than re-reading. You spend your time on the two domains where you missed the most, not on all six equally. Items you miss come back three days later with a new scenario, so you learn the concept rather than the wording. Missed again, they come back after seven more days. The last step is a full mock made of questions you have not seen. Each step has published research behind it, with citations on the method page.
Who we are
BT Exam Practice is an independent study tool. We are not affiliated with the BACB or Pearson VUE. Every question is written against the 2026 Test Content Outline, answered blind by three independent models, and rejected if any of them disagree or if a wrong option can be ruled out without knowing the material. Our practice scores do not correspond to the official passing standard. Read more about us or see what the paid plan includes.
